  • Magnet: i thought we had a spot where we could talk about topics unrelated to fly fishing. i want to talk about unemployment and how it is being abused. there is too much fraud in the system. many of us scrounge to find time to fish while the freeloaders are leisurely doing what they want on our dime.

  • AaronJasper: 7 inches! Ouch, I wish that we would get a half inch every other day! that would be just the right amount...

  • sholgate: Not to mention how much of the algae has been moved.  It is all good.  We got 7 inches of rain.  Not sure why here, hardly anywhere else has even close to that. But a blessing.

    July 15, 2010, 03:22:17 PM
  • sholgate: Silly Aaron, my family on both sides are farmers. I know we needed the rain.  I was in the lower end of the Tully yesterday am.  It went from about 400 cfs to 2000 in about 30 minutes.  (I was fishing for bass.)
    July 15, 2010, 07:31:52 AM
  • AaronJasper: Steve... I wish that we had shots of rain every day. We need it really bad. I know that on some streams the trout are having a real tough time.

Troubling ESPN News Story
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:24:23 PM »
Check this news link posted by ESPN March 9, 2010 that states commercial AND recreational fishing may be banned via presidential executive order.  This has to be a joke....but ESPN??

Fear-mongering

Doesn't truly say anything about sportfishing.

My first thought is that it may be right wing rumor mongering. Bite on that and I bet you have a propensity to watch Fox news. Lol

Yes, this article definitely screams fear and rumor mongering. Robert Montgomery himself is playing fast and loose with the facts.

See a responsible counter article to his:

I doubt we will see  that,  the fishing industry is worth many billions of dollars, employs 1000s and supports massive tax revenues.
Not to mention the many State and Federal agencies that are also involved in the fishing industry.
Over my dead body that's all l got to say about this one.

This is not by any stretch of ones imagination a legitiment article. This is an individuals opinion without any factual basis. The very bottom of the OP/ED is ESPN's disclaimer which reads as follows:

This is an opinion column from Robert Montgomery. As a Senior Writer for BASS Publications, Montgomery has written about conservation, environment, and access issues for more than two decades.

Haha, so for each year over the last two decades, "THE END IS NEAR?" (as per his opinion...)
