I Finally Had a Free Day to Fish!

I Finally Had a Free Day to Fish!

I had to go to Hardy to get some waders so I made sure that I packed the rods in the truck. Who am I kidding? They never leave the box! I never go anywhere without my fly fishing equipment! I was finished with Hardy at around 11, so I headed to the Little Lehigh. This was the first day that was slightly cooler than the previous 6 weeks. This coupled with recent rains created some fishable conditions on the limestone streams in the region. I was actually more happy to not be looking at the Farmington River in Connecticut where I have been guiding almost every day. Most of the trout that I took were between 8 and 12 inches. Some were a little bigger and smaller, but I was a great change of pace from stocked/holdover fish that I have been catching over the last few weeks. I fished a total of three streams. The fishing was quite easy on two of them, while the third was a bit moody. We fished with a French nymphing system and dry/dropper. The numbers of fish in the stream were good to excellent depending on the stream and section. This is good news since this summer has been brutal and tough on the trout to say the least... On a side note, the fishing was much better "in the shade!"

Nice reports and pics!

i'm happy to hear that the rain is falling when I come in a few days!

I hope US trouts will be in good mood!

You caught everyone of them in french/nymphing?

It seems to be a very popular technique there... when here, not so much... funny :o)

I think you are overestimating it's popularity here. It simply seems popular because we talk about it on here all the time.

Aaron, how were the water temps?  Heading up that way on Tuesday and would like to get some fishing in.  There's been a brewhaha on some of the other sites about the water temps that the LL Fly Shop has been posting on his web site, but in my years of fishing the LL I have never known that stream to get very warm, or at least into the danger threshold for the fish.  Not saying it hasn't, quite possibly I just wasn't fishing during those times of high temps, but with the springs one would think that the water temps would stay pretty constant.

HI Euro

did you find great graylings to fish in Alaska?  I heard there are some very nice grayling there...

my favorites...

yes I arrive saturday 7. I'll be in Waterbury for 4 days (only). So after everything I read about the Farmington river, I have to go there... hoping to catch some great brownies and rainbows as I saw on your pics. I'm gonna have a friend to help me to find my way in this new river on the New continent. ;)
I'll be there the sunday.

Monday, i don't know. If I feel good on the Farmington I'll try it again. or the Housatonic, or the Naugatuck river or a little one where I can find brookies.

I don't know if i can fish the third day... I'll try to negociate with my wife :)

After I go to Greensboro, North Carolina. I think I can find here some lakes full of black basses!
We gonna spend a week end in the Smoky mountains, Tennessee. So I'm gonna spend 1 ( or 2) days to try the little streams around... The fishes look in good shape there. I hope some of them will fight hard! :)

If i could spend all my holidays fishing, I would... But that's a family trip, and I have to find a compromise.
My program isn't fully booked, but it sound good to me. Fishing differents rivers and streams, in a new country. Several types of fishing. I'm very excited! I hope the fishes will rise and that I can enjoy a great experience!
